Drive Electric Week 2015

Drive Electric Week 2015

Last week was National Drive Electric Week and I was blown away by the number of events and the enthusiastic participation of so many EV Drivers! We received invitations from several event organizers around the Los Angeles area and although we would have loved to have attend all of them, we could only be so many places at one time. On Saturday, September 12th, we attended the Torrance event. It began with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new public charging stations that Chargepoint had installed, which included a DC Fast Charging Station with both CHAdeMO and CCS! I'm so happy to see the continued rapid growth of the DC Fast Charging network as it is the key to mass EV adoption.

We greatly enjoyed the company of several Hollywood Electrics customers on their bikes at this event including Bob, Harry, Paul and Eric, the latter whom rode his Zero DS all the way down from Tujunga! I'm so grateful to have such enthusiastic and supportive customers who appreciate the true value of Electric Motorcycles!

We also rode to Exposition Park on Sunday, September 13th for the Los Angeles event. A huge gathering of EVs were in attendance. The LAPD even brought down their collection of Electric Cars and Motorcycles, including their Zero MMX, a favorite amongst the LAPD Offroad Unit.

The following Friday & Saturday, September 18-19, AltCar Expo returned to the Santa Monica Civic for the 10th consecutive year! While it was once a exclusively a showcase of experimental and prototype vehicles, it has now matured into an event with most of the major vehicle manufacturers proudly displaying their products. At AltCar in 2009 I even met Governor Schwarzenegger, who was in attendance to witness the mainstream pioneering of the EV Movement.

AltCar 2015 also gave us the opportunity to attend a preview of the documentary, My Lunch With The President. This trenchant film follows our customer and EV Activist Paul Scott on his mission to push Electric Vehicle Legislation. Paul and Director Kelly Olsen were joined by a panel of celebrity speakers from the movie. Six Time Emmy Award Nominee Ed Begley Jr., John Densmore (of the Doors), and Alexandra Paul (from Baywatch) discussed the documentary and answered audience questions.

It's incredible to see how much the Electric Vehicle community has grown in just a few short years. We couldn't have done it without the support and enthusiasm of everyone who has been an active part of the ride, which is truly just beginning. We're eagerly looking forward to next year! Enjoy the Ride, Harlan Flagg
